This Too She Did
Every morning, early she'd wake
to take down the bed sheets
and rub his thin, useless legs.
She'd dress him for the day
and help him into the wheeled chair
that never went anywhere.
Her day would fill with the
tasks of living two lives
in the time allotted for one.
Keeping that house their home,
and keeping the light in his world
from dimming too soon.
And at night, after the duties
of her love had been reversed,
she'd lay herself down beside him.
