The Seven Deadly Sins

Sloth
Sure, kid, go ahead and climb on the coffee table.
It's so comfortable here on the sofa—I'll just watch you.
I'm certain you'll be all right.
Avarice
Our recent plumbing disaster is not really an appropriate subject for a poem,
but I would just like to say that if we had more money in the bank I think I
would feel better about a lot of things.
Jealousy
Why couldn't I have written
the poem about the dog going to college?

Gluttony
Please pass the Sun Chips.

Pride
Could I get a new YMCA card? I look
so fat in this one.
Lust

Time for your nap, kid.
Wouldn't you like to take a nap?
Mommy and Daddy would really like for you
to take a nap.

Anger

I don't get angry. I don't think I've ever lost my temper
or spoken sharply to anyone or . . . damn it!
Can't I get one minute of peace to write one stupid freaking poem in
this house without the phone ringing?!
